Kalogeras
A beach within walking distance of the village, with junipers, dunes and very shallow blue-green water.
Kalogeras lies at the edge of the village, a little west of Kontogoni, and continues into the next cove, Piso Kalogeras. It is an easy walk from the village.
Rare junipers and the island’s sand dunes frame the beach. The water is very shallow, good for small children too.
The name
Tradition says a simple, wise man once lived here alone in a poor hut, respected by everyone. When he died he was buried on the spot, and the area took his name, Kalogeras, “the monk”.
Good to know
The island’s football ground is nearby, and so are the Toumbes, tall dunes where children used to roll down the sand. There is parking at the Toumbes.
