Kontogoni

The village beach on its south-west shore: fine sand and clear, shallow water.

Kontogoni stretches along the south-west shore of the village and is one of the few beaches right in it. It has fine sand and clear water, and you can walk there from the houses and rooms.

The name

Two stories explain the name. One says the water is so shallow that for many metres it only reaches your knee (“gonato”). The other tells of a short man, “Kontogiannis”, who drowned here long ago, and whose nickname turned over time into “Kontogoni”.

Good to know

Being in the village, it is handy for an early morning or late afternoon swim without a car.
