Boat route
By boat from the harbour to Simos
The east coast from the sea: sea caves, Cape Frangos and Simos as it appears from the bay.
A boat route from the village harbour to Simos, along the east coast.
Along the way
Leaving the harbour, the small church of Agios Ioannis is on your left, and further on Vaporaki, the ship-shaped rock that legend calls a pirate ship turned to stone.
You pass Mavros Kavos and reach the Karantreas cave, a cave in the sea that can only be seen from the water. Then come Spilitsa, Cape Ntelakouvia with its Venetian name, and the bay of Lefki.
In 1821 and 1822 the Greek fleet often anchored in these eastern waters, under Admiral Miaoulis.
Frangos and Simos
After Mytikas you reach Cape Frangos, the southernmost point of the island, windswept and imposing. Pirates once hid in its clefts. As you enter Frangos bay, Simos appears ahead with its white sand and turquoise water.
Good to know
In summer a caique also runs to Simos from the village’s old harbour. If you have your own boat, mind the shallows and the wind: in the afternoons a swell often builds up in the south.
